Newborn follow up visit.
Safe Journey's Midwifery was born from a passion for caring for women and babies. Providing the family with the option to receive care or have a birth in the comfort and loving atmosphere of their own home is a priority while maintaining safety.
Midwifery care is the independent practice of giving care to women during pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period, as well as care to the newborn infant and well woman care. My practice provides Midwifery care in accordance with established standards, which promotes safe and competent care. I will implement these standards through adherence to Missouri State Board of Nursing regulation, 20 CSR 2200-4.200 Collaborative Practice, regarding physician-advanced practice nurse collaborative practice arrangements, the American College of Nurse Midwifery standards, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, the Association of Women’s Health and Neonatal Nurses and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists guidelines.
As a Midwife, I recognize the medical factors of risk involved with some situations including breech birth and twin pregnancies. It is my policy to counsel any client with these situations regarding the increased risk factors for both herself and her baby. I will encourage the parents to make a responsible decision in conjunction with their physician, while upholding the right of the woman/family to informed consent and self-determination. The intrinsic right of the parents to choose their place of birth is recognized, and within the bounds of my training and my comfort level I shall not be prohibited from aiding the clients with their choice. If unusual conditions exist an informed consent will be signed. I reserve the right to withdraw care if situations arise, that may be irreconcilable and/or outside my training and comfort level.
Evaluation of the childbearing woman is an on-going process, including risk screening to assess and identify conditions which may indicate a deviation from normalcy. The identification of those conditions may require physician involvement. In making this assessment, as a Midwife, I rely on my training, skill, intuition, and clinical judgment. I will be available to my clients 24 hours a day or have someone provide care in my place. And you will be able to reach me by phone, email, or text. There may be variations based on agreements between myself, clients, and my consulting physician(s).
